Wednesday, March 14 – Leaving Home

So, after months of planning, finally the day had come to leave. We slept in and had a leisurely breakfast. The packing was all finished and we had time for a nice casual stroll around the neighborhood before we had to sit on planes for the next 24 hours. We called a Lyft to the airport and the trip was underway.

Check-in and security was reasonably fast, and then we had time to kill at the terminal before catching our 12:30 flight to Detroit.

Plenty of time for the lounge in DTW, due to a 4-hour layover, which was pleasant enough. But we needed something more than the usual lounge snacks to hold us over.

So we decided to head to the Cat Cora Tap Room for a bite before the next flight. Then it was off to LAX, where we had another 2+ hour layover before the long Transpacific flight.

The lounge in the DL terminal of LAX was quite a dump. It was under construction, horribly crowded, and quite hot. We finally found “seats” and had some drinks. but we were glad to escape to the much more comfortable airplane.

Settling in for 15 hours in the air, we were excited to take off on time. Next stop, Friday!
